History

The land comprising Birmingham Farms Subdivision  was farmed by a family name Durkee in the latter part of the nineteenth century.  From the early 1900s until about 1930, it was owned and farmed by the Colby family.  The farm house was built on top of the hill near Spruce Drive.  The property changed hands several times during the next twenty years and was farmed intermittently by sharecroppers.  The property was subdivided in the mid 1950s and the first family moved in on December 26, 1957.  In November 1958, a group of eleven families met to discuss the possibilities of a neighborhood association.  After several more meetings, the Birmingham Farms Homeowners Association was formed on April 29, 1959, by most of the thirty or so families then living in Sub. No. 1.  The stated purpose:  “To foster and protect the development of a desirable residential community”.  On July 9, 1959, the Association was incorporated as a non-profit organization.
